Appreciate the Small Things

With the starting of a new year comes resolutions and goals for the year to come. While everyone I’m sure is working on their’s, I thought I would share mine with you. This resolution is more encompassing than simply a small goal – it’s a readjustment to my perception of life, especially my own. Over the past few years I’ve realized that I have taken a lot for granted – great family, friends, adventures, work, etc. My goal for this year is to write down each day what specifically I was grateful for. It  could be a thought, moment, feeling, person, story, or even a mistake that I will learn from, anything. This will force me at the end of the day to reflect on everything that happened throughout the day. Appreciate all the small things, and realize what I could have done differently to make every moment worthy of writing down.

In trying to make the most of every moment – I’ve realized there is one big thing I need to change or “resolve” over the year as well. And this is trying to take a step back from technology. Appreciate when there is a living, breathing person in front of me and take the time to get to know them better or just have fun. Although technology is entertaining, there is nothing better than feeling appreciated and heard by someone else. This all begins with turning off the tv and putting down my phone.

I hope others will possibly learn from my resolution or maybe try something similar. After one week I already feel better – and have some awesome things to be grateful for. My niece Annabelle’s smile, a delicious dinner, playing hockey with friends. 2016 – like every other year has great possibilities and I can’t wait to see what is in store.
